Newspaper TODAY | Tips on how to feed children on very hot days

The Ministry of Health indicated that in summer it is important to emphasize nutrition and hydration to maintain body temperature, especially with the smallest of the house.

In this sense, the Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN) offers some recommendations to take into account:

Babies under 6 months of age who are breastfed do not need to add any other liquid besides breast milk, which is important to offer more frequently, to achieve regulation of body temperature. Possibly, during hot days, the baby already demands more milk.

From 6 months of age, they should already consume drinking water and, in hot weather, in greater quantity, avoiding the consumption of soft drinks and sugary drinks that do not help hydration. In addition, at that age, the baby already receives solid foods (complementary feeding).

It is advisable to offer them thick consistency foods, so that, in small quantities, they receive the nutrients they need, preferring healthy preparations, such as boiled, grilled, steamed and baked.

Fruits and vegetables are a good source of vitamins, fiber and water, so it is important to offer them in all colors. They are an excellent option to consume as a mid-morning snack or dessert for lunch or dinner.

Children over 18 months of age can add raw vegetable salads to their diet.

Regarding the conservation of food, it should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours, that is, it is necessary to store cooked food immediately in the refrigerator, but not for more than 48 hours.

Another important care is to dress children in light clothing, light colors, and avoid exposing them to the sun or high temperatures for a long time. Look for fresh places, where they can play or share with the family.
