Government budget €200,000 for a new San Marcos enlargement project

It is not the most generous amount of central government budgets, but it is an indication that Leon's old projects are still in the Executive's multi-year plans.

Paradores has allocated €200,000 in its 2021 budgets to prepare the project for the implementation of the second phase of the works, corresponding to the extension of the work that is now being completed and which will allow the installations to open the December bridge.

This figure will be fully dedicated to carrying out a new project to implement this phase, since the one approved in 2016 during the presidency of Ángeles Alarcó would force San Marcos to close, something that Oscar López 's new leadership completely discards.

Thus, the budget allocation will have to cover the redefinition of the attached building committed by Paradores and which was budgeted at the time at 35.1 million euros, which included the construction of up to four floors with 129 rooms and a large ground floor with large multi-purpose rooms, gardens with slopes and an auditorium with 200 seats.

Added to that was a spa. The new budget will depend on the size of the project.

The establishment of the first budget for the second phase has already been decided and will be made public in the draft general state budgets to be presented to Congress today, within the Multiannual Action Program which reflects the company's economic projections for the next four years in progress. In the last quarter of each year, the company proceeds to draw up the operating budget for the following financial year and has established a procedure for reviewing and monitoring the deviations of each unit from the operational budget, which takes place twice a year.

In this process, the appropriation for a new enlargement project will be resumed in parallel with the start of the Parador at the beginning of next month after being awarded in October 2017 for 21 million euros, although the actual closure was made after Christmas of that year. If the plans do not change, it will be Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the President of Paradores, Oscar López, who will visit the historic building already renovated for the first time and it is likely to be in the middle of next month. Although the announcement is already made by López, the León meeting will serve to forge the commitment to this expansion and will allow the opening of the curtain of a work questioned as a result of the filtration of biased images that have revolutionized social networks by misunderstandings and buels, such as the placement of a pole at the reception, the disappearance of the central staircase or the covering of historical stone, as well as the disappearance of the capitular room and its artisan. Paradores' reaction to these falsehoods about the historical part of the building has been repeated denial. Not in vain, the first workers who are already repositioned in the Parador (73) underline the quality of the works and the excellence of the materials used that will turn San Marcos back into Hotel Gran Lujo, a commitment reiterated by the President of Paradores. The fact is that the second phase had a basic project, not an implementation project, which required the closure of the facilities. "we will do a phase two well, with meaning and not forcing the closure of phase one, which is in the process of being renewed for two years," he stressed to this newspaper Óscar López at the end of last year.
