The National Bird embellishes the first lady's dress

Tegucigalpa. In this Bicentennial of Homeland Independence, the first lady, Ana Rosalinda García de Hernández, bets again on the talent of Lenca artisans, who made the fabric of the dress that she will wear tomorrow, in the celebration of September 15.

The white textile was manufactured at Loom Los Encinos, located in the community of the same name in the municipality of Intibucá, owned by Don Saturnino Gonzáles, who worked with the delicate fabric together with his family. They are excited because for the last eight years, Mrs. Hernández has recognized her effort, creativity and the commitment put into her work.

A few weeks ago, Ana de Hernández visited this loom in Intibucá and was able to see the Lenca artisans making the fabric for her dress and even accompanied part of the process.

HONDURAN CULTURE

"Every September 15 I seek to represent our own culture, of what is done at home, to highlight the national identity through fabrics, embroidery and paintings and this Bicentennial of Independence will not be the exception," said the wife of the Honduran president, Juan Orlando Hernandez.

The Intibucan designer, Roberto Ramírez, who for the sixth time is making the first lady's dress, explained that the outfit is a long-cut classic, inspired as always by flora and fauna, but this time the Honduran National Bird will stand out, the Scarlet Macaw.

This version is based on the National Bird of Honduras, the Scarlet Macaw; the images of this were incorporated through the sublimation technique (printing on fabric) and from there a pattern was taken to embroider them in an artisanal way by the sisters Antonia, Lidia and Idalia Orellana, originally from the community of Peña Blanca, in Santa Cruz. of Yojoa, Cortes. They worked for several hours so that the embroidery finishes were clear.

El Ave Nacional embellece vestido de primera dama

The shoes that the first lady will wear are platform style, with a jute lining and blue and yellow leather uppers that combine with the main colors of the plumage of our National Bird.

They were elaborated with care and great enthusiasm by hand, for six days, in the Mayan Roots factory, most of it by the hands of Don Reiniery Bellino, an icon of the artisanal footwear industry in Honduras, the son of a single mother.

At the age of nine, Bellino, faced with the economic limitations of his family, learned to make shoes; thanks to him there are lasts in the country and in recent decades he has been professionalizing abroad.

“We had never done this style of shoe, we modified the design from its original version, especially for the first lady. They are very comfortable and feminine shoes for the event," he said. He added that "we are proud that for the first time a wife of a President of the Republic chooses a shoe made in Honduras for the celebration of September 15," said Estela Martínez, director creative of Mayan Roots.

Leather bag alludes to the National Flag

The bag that Mrs. Hernández will carry is a baguette-type design, which can be used as a clutch and also has a removable handle so that she can wear it on her shoulder.
