'Without novelty': Never a series in which nothing happens was so funny

Waiting for something to happen, which is basically what the three couples of protagonists of the new HBO Max series are doing without news, may seem deeply boring. However, the fiction developed by Rodrigo Sopeña (Club Houdini, Lol: if you laugh, you lose, the time of José Mota) with Álex Mendíbil (Camera Café) for the ‘streaming’ platform is absolutely far from being. Not only is it really entertaining and fun, but it has that kind of addictive component that almost makes it impossible to see it in another way that is not in marathon plan. You can do it from next Sunday, December 19 by HBO Max.

Adaptation of an Australian format that has already had successful versions in other countries such as the United States, Holland, Belgium, Germany and the Middle East, the premise of without novelty is as follows: three couples of characters, connected by a common event that does not endoccur, they expect a signal to go to action.

They are two police officers played by Arturo Valls and Carlos Areces who guard in a car at the gates of a warehouse in an industrial estate; Two companions of the body - Pilar Castro and Adriana Torrebejano - who expect news in the control center but never receive them;and two hitmen - Toni Acosta and Omar Banana - who await the time to receive some merchandise with the occasional "setback".

In their tours, the three couples share more than the wait from different perspectives of the staging of a criminal operation: conversations on horseback between the everyday and the absurd, uncomfortable silences and looks that say everything.

UN CÓCTEL DE VIRTUDES EN FORMATO 'MINI' (Y MUCHAS RISAS)

One of the first adjectives that comes to mind when describing without novelty is, worth the redundancy, new.A quality that today, in an audiovisual production scenario in which new series and seasons are released almost daily, we must take into account. The actors of the series, with whom Sensacine has had the opportunity to speak on the occasion of the premiere of the series this weekend, were also surprised.

'Sin Novedad': Nunca una serie en la que no pasa nada fue tan divertida

All of them agree that they did not know the format before receiving the proposal of Sopeña and his team, but they quickly took a look - in greater or lesser extent - and were surprised."There was a fact that made me open my eyes," recalls Arturo Valls."What Will Ferrell produces the American. And that makes you say: 'If this uncle has been cool ... I'm going'.The proposal itself motivated a lot for surprise: only three scenarios, the waiting moments before the action occurs, a lot of dialogue, characters ... ".

His cast partner, Adriana Torrebejano, also got rid of praise towards the original series, produced in Australia in 2015 and that was gradually giving rise to the versions of other countries:

Torrebejano's description is perfect. He does not leave out of the qualities that are undeniable to without novelty. In fact, we have barely gosted refile due to the detail that it is a short series, with six chapters of just 20-25 minutes, but it is still another of its great virtues.

"I thought I was a challenge to work on this project," says Pilar Castro, who also acknowledges that he had never been part of a brief format."I was attracted.I liked it to be short, that it was comedy, that it was something very everyday. And that, after all, they were characters to which nothing seems to them, but that it happens to them. And very surprising things, also ".

Toni Acosta, meanwhile, was really excited: "I feel that there are so many contents and so much to see, to find something different, to me as a spectator, it costs me.I enjoy them all, but some end up reminding me of others. And for me this series is super original ".

LO BUENO, SI BREVE, DOS VECES BUENO

You will only need a couple of hours for no novelty from beginning to end.It seems destined to enjoy a sitting, but we can guarantee that another "capitulito" would see yourself after finishing the six that make up the first installment. If that will be possible or not, however, it remains to be seen: "It is quite open," admits Adriana Torrebejano, but for now there are no guarantees: "I hope I could tell you that we started to roll tomorrow.Would be radiant ".

"There is so much content and so many things are constantly coming out, that you start a series of 50 minutes and you really consider: 'But do I have time to see this series?".His partner in the room, Toni Acosta, coincides, but also makes an interesting reflection that also translates into good things about no novelty.

"There will be wonderful slow movies. For me, that the chapters that last 30 minutes are good, yes, but it is also easy to get rid of.Sometimes, in 30 minutes, the content can be made superficial. It seems to me a challenge that in each chapter can be offered a little more so that the viewer stays to see the next one, "the interpreter reflects.

UNA SERIE A CIEGAS: "LA SORPRESA ES LO QUE NO HAS VISTO"

"Without novelty we were surprised for good because we didn't know very well what we were doing, not even us," admit Arturo Valls and Carlos Areces. And, with three scenarios and three very different couples, each of the three dynamics was shot on their own and none of them was very clear about the set until the final result saw."Each one rolled on their stage and we did not match.Everything you had not seen and it was new was what made us the most ".This coincides with their partners:

"Although we had read the script of the whole series, we didn't know what our teammates had done," recalls Torrebejano."Because I have not crossed anyone except with Pilar [Castro].When we saw the series, we were afraid to know if the three plots and the six characters would work. But the truth is that it surprises.Because it fits ".

The six episodes of without novelty are released on December 19 in HBO Max.
