Lady Gaga and Charlize Theron duel on the red carpet

Oscar Awards for RAFAEL MUÑOZ(@munoz_rafa)

Lady Gaga or Charlize Theron? It is difficult to decide and award the Oscar for Best Dressed on the red carpet. Gaga, less flashy and eccentric than at the Golden Globes gala, has chosen an original black dress from the house of Alexander McQueen, with a strapless neckline, and very long leather gloves: an interesting reinterpretation of the 'Gilda' style that immortalized Rita Hayworth. But what has attracted the most attention has been the famous 128-carat Tiffany Diamond, a priceless piece discovered 141 years ago that has only been worn twice. The most special was when Audrey Hepburn wore it for the promotion of the movie 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.

Cicely Tyson, winner of an Honorary Oscar, has dazzled with one of the most special designs, also in black, but all the prominence has gone to Billy Porter, actor of Pose and American Horror Story, who has divided the critics with his velvet tuxedo that changes the classic pants for a huge skirt with volume. A Christian Siriano design. Allison Janney has worn a very different version of the classic tuxedo, in her case a very low-cut design by Pamella Roland.

Black was always the preferred tone for actresses who walked the red carpet. He was the king until blue and white dethroned him. Now he lives another sweet moment and prevails over the boring powdery tones and white, a tone that has been abused since Gwyneth Paltrow appeared with the Tom Ford design with a cape that has been copied ad nauseam.

Charlize Theron has changed her record and has left transparencies and heart-stopping necklines at home. On this occasion she has opted for a sober style, in light blue, very demure on the front and more mischievous on the back, due to the neckline that she has shown to the photographers in the purest Elsa Pataky style.

Another of the kings of the carpet is usually red and on this occasion Rachel Weisz stood out, who has powerfully attracted attention with a Givenchy design. In the same color, but in a different style, we have seen two of the protagonists of Rome, Marina de Tavira and Nancy García.

The red carpet has been filled with tulle, a trend-setting fabric, but above all with pink tulle. This tone is fashionable, especially for the feminist connotations it has. It has undoubtedly been the main color of this gala and we have seen it in different shades, from the intense design of Angela Bassett, from Reem Acra, to the cheerful one of Helen Mirren, who has opted for the Schiaparelli house. Kacey Musgrave, Maya Rudolph, Sarah Paulson, Gemma Chan, and Kiki Layne.

Spanish fashion has been very present. Marta Nieto, star of Madre, has worn a very special dress from the Delpozo house, a design signed by Josep Font for the first collection he made when he landed at the Spanish firm after the death of its founder Jesús del Pozo, a designer with whom Marta Nieto maintained a close relationship, even coming to parade for him. Nieto has also worn Bárcena jewelry, exactly a set of earrings and a ring from the 50s. Rodrigo Sorogoyen has chosen a classic tuxedo from the Pedro del Hierro house.

María del Puy, producer of the short film, has worn an exclusive dress made by the couturier Emilio Salinas, a design made with 40 meters of tulle that is draped over the bodice and that winks at the glamor of golden Hollywood and the classic elegance of Grace Kelly.

Cortana has dressed Ariadna Gil who is in Hollywood accompanying her partner, Viggo Mortensen. Gil has worn a long party design with Japanese sleeves, a round neckline and a pronounced V-neckline on the back. The dress has a cut at the waist and the skirt is cut on the bias.

Among the younger actresses we have seen little risk and almost all have opted for the safe. Emilia Clarke for an asymmetric design by Balmain and Emma Stone for a Louis Vuitton dress.

Brie Larson has opted for metallic fabric, as has Jennifer Lopez (with Tom Ford's mirror design) and Gleen Close, who has stunned with a gold-tone coat, Oscar gold. Emy Adams, from Atelier Versace, has worn a boring and old dress, a design in highly textured white fabric that did not suit her at all.

Michelle Yeoh has turned to a classic, Elie Saab, just like Jennifer Hudson. The first has worn a very low-cut princess dress and the second has preferred an asymmetric design with a cascade of red ruffles. Analysts say that the least used tone is green and few actresses have worn it on the red carpet. Angelina Jolie is one of them and this time we have seen Olivia Coleman. Her dress has been the most notable mistake of the night. Not only the devil wears Prada!

Among them we have seen less daring than in previous editions and Chris Evans stood out, with his light blue velvet tuxedo, and Mark Ronson, with a black tuxedo with white trimmed lapels and cuffs. Although all eyes have been directed at Jason Momoa, in a pink tuxedo (and matching hair tie), who was very coordinated with his partner, Lisa Bonet. Both with Fendi designs.
